Sriracha Apple Grilled Cheese Recipe

This grilled cheese sandwich layers slices of apple and cheese between bread spread with both plain and sriracha chili butter. Cooking it covered on low heat allows the cheese to melt slowly while the bread crisps to a golden finish. The spicy sriracha and sweet apple create a contrasting flavor to the creamy melted cheese inside.

Description

The Sriracha Apple Grilled Cheese Recipe starts by mixing softened butter with sriracha and optional chili flakes to form a spicy spread. One side of each bread slice is buttered plainly, while the other is coated with the sriracha butter. Cheese and thin apple slices are layered inside before topping with more cheese and the second bread slice. Cooking covered on medium-low heat melts the cheese fully without burning the bread, creating a crispy, golden exterior.

The combination of cheddar and parmesan cheeses creates a sharp and savory base, balanced by the crisp, slightly sweet apple slices. The sriracha butter adds a creamy heat that cuts through the richness. This sandwich works well for a quick lunch or casual dinner and can be served alone or with a side soup or salad.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1 teaspoons butter plus more to butter the bread, softened
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha
  • 1 teaspoon chili flakes optional
  • 4 lices bread
  • 4 ounces cheese see notes
  • ½ apple cored and sliced

Instructions

  1. Mix the butter with the sriracha and, if using, the chili flakes in a small bowl.
  2. Butter one slice of bread with plain butter then turn the bread over and butter the other side with the Sriracha butter. Add the cheese, apple slices, and more cheese. Top with the other piece of bread then butter the top.
  3. Heat a small frying pan over medium-low heat. Add the sandwich and cover the pan. Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, until the cheese has melted, and the bread is brown and crispy. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Cheddar and parmesan cheeses are preferred for their flavor, but using brie also produces a delicious variation.
