Stir Fry Sauce

This Stir Fry Sauce combines hoisin, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and sriracha to create a balanced blend of sweet, savory, tangy, and spicy flavors. It can be shaken or whisked together quickly and used to add depth to a variety of stir-fried dishes or stored refrigerated for convenience.

Description

The recipe mixes hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and sriracha to produce a multi-dimensional stir-fry sauce. The hoisin and soy provide a sweet-salty base, rice vinegar introduces acidity, sesame oil adds nuttiness, and sriracha brings controlled heat. The ingredients are combined in a jar or bowl to meld before applying to cooked vegetables, meats, or tofu in a stir fry.

This versatile sauce brightens stir fry dishes with its balanced flavor profile. It can be modified to be gluten free by using appropriate soy and hoisin sauces, made spicier with more sriracha, or thickened with added cornstarch mixed in water. The recipe yields about half a cup of sauce, enough for multiple servings, and keeps refrigerated for up to two weeks.

Ingredients

Servings
  • ¼ cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha

Instructions

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a half pint mason jar. Secure the lid and shake to combine all of the ingredients. Alternatively, you can add all of the ingredients to a small bowl and whisk to combine.
  2. Use the sauce to make your favorite stir fry recipe, or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Notes

  • To make the sauce gluten free, substitute with gluten-free versions of hoisin and soy sauce (Tamari).
  • Increase the sriracha amount from 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon to make the sauce spicier.
  • For a thicker sauce, add a cornstarch slurry made of 1 tablespoon cornstarch and 1 tablespoon water, then whisk into the sauce.
  • This recipe yields approximately 1/2 cup of sauce, suitable for several servings.
