Sugar Free Chocolate Chips

Sugar Free Chocolate Chips are made with melted cacao butter, unsweetened cocoa powder, and a powdered sweetener like allulose or erythritol. This homemade confection creates solid chocolate chips without added sugar, suitable for low-carb or sugar-restricted baking. They set quickly when chilled and can be molded using silicone mats or parchment paper.

Description

This recipe crafts sugar free chocolate chips by blending melted cacao butter with cocoa powder and a powdered sweetener while optionally adding vanilla extract. Melted over low heat and combined carefully, the mixture is poured into silicone molds or onto parchment and frozen briefly to harden. The result is solid chocolate chips that mimic traditional ones in texture and are usable in baking or as snack additions.

The flavor leans on the natural bitterness of cocoa, balanced by the chosen sweetener, without refined sugar. With just three main ingredients, it offers a clean, controllable way to enjoy chocolate chips in dessert recipes requiring sugar-free options.

These chocolate chips can be stored frozen or refrigerated until use and can be broken into pieces if molded on parchment. The notes include suggestions for adding cocoa mass for increased chip stability in oven usage.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1.75 oz / 50g cacao butter
  • 3 tablespoon cocoa powder unsweetened
  • 2 tablespoon allulose or powdered erythritol
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract optional

Instructions

  1. Melt the cacao butter in a pan over a low heat. As soon as it has melted, turn off the heat.
  2. Add the cocoa powder and powdered sweetener and stir util combined. Add the vanilla extract, if using.
  3. Pour the melted chocolate into the underside of a pyramid silicone baking mat and place in the freezer for 5 minutes until set.
  4. Release the sugar free chocolate chips from the mat and use in your favourite low carb recipes!

Notes

  • The recipe yields about 10 portions, each approximately one tablespoon or 7 grams of chips.
  • For more stability in baking, adding cocoa mass (cacao paste) can prevent the chips from melting too much in the oven.
  • Use silicone mats or parchment paper to form chips; break frozen chocolate on parchment into pieces if molds are unavailable.
