Taco Lettuce Wraps (Easy & Healthy Recipe)

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon neutral cooking oil generic cooking oil
  • 1 onion finely chopped, medium
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 iceberg lettuce base removed, head of

Toppings

  • Mexican cheese shredded
  • salsa fresh
  • avocado diced
  • cilantro chopped
  • lime wedges

Instructions

Make the filling:

  1. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 3 minutes until it's begun to get soft and translucent. Add the ground meat, garlic, and taco seasoning.
  2. Continue to cook, breaking up the meat as it cooks, for about 5-7 minutes until it’s cooked through.
  3. Add the water and stir it into the meat to help deglaze the skillet. Turn off the heat, cover, and gather the remaining ingredients.

Assemble:

  1. Place 2 iceberg lettuce leaves on top of each other to form a sturdy base. Scoop some of the taco filling into the lettuce.
  2. Top each taco lettuce wrap with shredded cheese, salsa, avocado, and cilantro. Squeeze a lime wedge over the top (optional) and fold to close the wrap.
