Taco Sloppy Joes

Taco Sloppy Joes combine ground turkey cooked with onions, garlic, and tomato sauce, seasoned with taco seasoning, cumin, and mild diced green chiles, then mixed with black beans. Served on soft hamburger buns with optional toppings like cheese, lettuce, and salsa, this recipe offers a flavorful twist on the classic sloppy joe with familiar southwestern spices and hearty components.

Description

This recipe starts by sautéing diced yellow onions and minced garlic in olive oil until softened. Ground turkey is then browned and combined with tomato sauce, water, mild green chiles, and a taco seasoning packet enhanced with cumin. The mixture simmers to develop flavor and thicken slightly. Adding rinsed black beans provides extra substance and a different texture.

The final mixture is spooned onto warm, soft hamburger buns as the base of the sandwich. Optional toppings such as grated cheddar cheese, lettuce, tomato, guacamole, onions, sour cream, and salsa allow customization, lending fresh, creamy, or spicy elements depending on preference.

Serving these taco sloppy joes as a casual meal provides a hearty and mildly spiced sandwich with a familiar but distinct flavor profile. The recipe balances lean protein with beans and vegetables for a filling dish appropriate for weeknight dinners or informal gatherings.
