Thai Basil Chicken

Thai Basil Chicken features thin strips of chicken breast cooked quickly in a hot skillet with garlic, serrano chile, oyster sauce, and soy sauce, then finished with fresh basil leaves. This stir-fry delivers a fragrant, savory flavor with a touch of heat and fresh herbaceousness. It cooks fast and is commonly served over jasmine rice to round out the meal.

Description

Thai Basil Chicken uses boneless, skinless chicken breast cut into thin strips marinated briefly in oyster sauce and soy sauce. The chicken cooks in vegetable oil with minced garlic and serrano chile until just cooked through. Fresh Thai or regular basil leaves are added last, briefly wilting in the pan to release their aroma and flavor.

The dish offers a balanced flavor profile combining savory umami from the oyster and soy sauces, pungent garlic, and a spicy kick from serrano chile. The basil contributes a fresh, slightly sweet herbal note. The texture includes tender, juicy chicken strips with fragrant softened basil, suitable as a main dish.

Serving Thai Basil Chicken over jasmine rice provides a fragrant, mild complement that helps balance the rich and spicy elements. This quick-cooking stir-fry is ideal for weeknight dinners and does not require complicated preparation or unusual ingredients if substitutions for gluten-free soy and oyster sauces are made.
