Turkey Larb Lettuce Wraps

Turkey Larb Lettuce Wraps combine ground turkey cooked with garlic, green onions, soy sauce, sambal oelek, and brown sugar, all served in crisp butter lettuce cups with fresh herbs and lime wedges. The cooked turkey is tender and savory with a touch of heat and sweetness. Assembling the larb mixture in lettuce leaves creates a light, refreshing hand-held dish that highlights the fresh mint, basil, and cilantro garnishes. This recipe offers a balanced combination of textures and flavors suitable for a casual appetizer or light meal.

Description

Turkey Larb Lettuce Wraps feature ground turkey cooked until no pink remains, sautéed with finely chopped garlic and sliced green onions. The meat is flavored with soy sauce, sambal oelek for mild spiciness, and brown sugar for subtle sweetness. The warm larb mixture is spooned into butter lettuce leaves, which provide a tender but crisp vessel. Topped with thinly sliced red onion and fresh mint, basil, and cilantro leaves, these wraps offer layers of flavor and freshness in each bite.

The cooked turkey's savory and subtly spicy notes contrast with the cooling herbs and tangy lime wedges served on the side. This combination of savory, spicy, and bright herbal elements creates a balanced eating experience. The lettuce cups are easy to hold and eat, making this a practical choice for casual gatherings or a light dinner.

For an added touch, the sauce can be doubled and served as a dipping option to intensify the flavor. The recipe's method ensures the turkey remains tender and evenly cooked, while the fresh garnishes add lively herbal notes that brighten the dish.

Ingredients

Servings

For the Turkey

  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 ¼ pounds ground turkey
  • 4 cloves garlic finely chopped
  • 6 green onions thinly sliced
  • 2-3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1-2 tablespoons sambal oelek
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Garnish

  • lettuce a few heads of butter lettuce, for cups
  • red onion thinly sliced
  • mint fresh
  • basil fresh
  • cilantro fresh

Instructions

  1. In a large heavy bottom pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium high heat. Add the ground turkey and using the back of a wooden spoon, break the meat apart and let cook until no pink remains, about 8-10 minutes, making sure to sauté frequently to ensure even cooking.
  2. Once the turkey has cooked, add the garlic and green onions and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant. Add the soy sauce, sambal oleek and brown sugar and stir to combine. Season with salt as needed and reduce heat to low and simmer until ready to use.
  3. To assemble, place equal amounts of the turkey larb mixture into a lettuce leaf, about ¼ cup per lettuce leaf. Top with the assorted garnishes and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Double the sauce portion if you want extra for dipping alongside the lettuce wraps.
