Vodka Cookies
Description
This Vodka Cookies recipe combines all-purpose flour with baking powder, powdered sugar, salt, and vanilla sugar to create a flavored base. Wet ingredients include egg, softened butter, lemon extract, and vodka, which contributes to texture by reducing gluten formation for tender cookies. The dough is mixed and kneaded until smooth, then shaped into a log, wrapped, and chilled for an hour to firm up.
After chilling, the dough is rolled to about 4 millimeters thickness, cut into shapes with a cookie cutter, and baked at 180°C (356°F) for approximately 10 minutes. Once cooled, cookies are decorated with a simple icing made from powdered sugar, a few drops of yellow food coloring, and vodka. Sugar decorations such as blue sugar balls are pressed into the icing before it sets. The vodka evaporates during baking, leaving behind only subtle flavor and a tender texture.
These cookies can be stored in an airtight container to maintain freshness. The use of lemon extract and vodka differentiates them from traditional sugar cookies by adding light citrus notes and a soft crumb.
Ingredients
For the dough:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 Teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- pinch salt
- 2 Teaspoon vanilla sugar
- 1 egg
- ½ cup butter soft
- 5 drops lemon extract
- 1 Tablespoon vodka
For the icing:
- ¼ cup powdered sugar
- 2 drops yellow food coloring
- 2 Tablespoon vodka
- sugar decorations such as blue sugar balls
Instructions
- Mix the flour with baking powder, Sugar, Salt and Vanilla Sugar first and then add the wet ingredients the Egg, soft Butter, Lemon Essence and Vodka.
- Mix the whole content and then work out for a few minutes to a smooth dough.
- Form into a big sausage and wrap into plastic and let the dough cool for 1 hour in the fridge.
- Just before you roll out your dough, preheat your oven to 180 Celsius.
- Take out form the fridge and roll your dough 4 millimeter thick out. Cut out with a cookie cutter while using extra flour at the side so that the dough shapes don't stick.
- Place on a baking tray and bake for about 10 minutes.
- While the cookies cool prepare the icing by mixing the powdered sugar with the food coloring and Vodka.
- Place the icing into a piping bag and decorate your cookies with the icing and then push the colored sugar balls into the icing.
- Let the icing get hard and store in a airtight container if you live in the tropics and in a cold climate store in a metal box (+Apple skin to keep the apples soft).
