Best Ever Thai Peanut Sauce Recipe

This Thai Peanut Sauce blends creamy natural peanut butter with soy sauce, rice vinegar, and a balance of sweet, spicy, and tangy elements. Ginger and garlic add warmth and depth, while lime juice brightens the flavor. The sauce can be thinned with warm water to achieve a range of consistencies for dipping or drizzling.

Description

The Best Ever Thai Peanut Sauce Recipe combines natural peanut butter with soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, chili garlic sauce, lime juice, fresh garlic, and grated ginger. These ingredients are whisked together to form a smooth sauce with a complex flavor profile balancing salty, sweet, spicy, and acidic tastes. Water is added incrementally to adjust the sauce thickness for use as a dipping sauce or dressing.

The choice of natural, unsweetened peanut butter keeps the sauce from becoming too sweet, allowing the flavors of fresh ginger and garlic to shine through. Adjusting the chili garlic sauce controls the heat level to personal preference. This sauce complements dishes needing a creamy, tangy, and slightly spicy element typical in Thai cuisine.

The sauce can be used immediately and is versatile across salads, grilled meats, or noodles.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter natural, unsweetened
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce use tamari or coconut aminos for gluten free, low sodium
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Chili garlic sauce more or less to taste
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice fresh
  • 3 garlic pressed or grated, cloves
  • 1 tablespoon ginger root grated
  • 2-4 tablespoons water warm

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients except water.  Whisk to fully combine.
  2. Add water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached. I normally use 2 tablespoons for a sauce and up to four if using it for a dressing.

Notes

  • Using natural unsweetened peanut butter helps control sweetness; conventional peanut butter may require reducing the brown sugar.
