Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F
  2. Cook the Sausage: In a skillet over medium heat, add the sweet Italian sausage and cook until browned. Break it apart with a spoon as it cooks. Once fully cooked, remove from the skillet and drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Sauté the Apples and Onion: In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sliced apples. Saute for about 5 minutes until the onions are soft and the apples are slightly tender. Add in the minced garlic and sugar; continue cooking or another 2 minutes, remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. Mix the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the cooked sausage, sautéed apple and onion mixture, shredded Italian cheese, ricotta cheese, and one beaten egg. Mix well until all ingredients are combined.
  5. Prepare the Crescent Roll Crust: Unroll the crescent rolls and press them into the bottom and up the sides of a greased 9-inch pie dish or baking dish, making sure to seal any seams.
  6. Fill the Pot Pie: Pour the sausage and apple filling into the crust, spreading it evenly.
  7. Top with Crescent Rolls: Take the second can of crescent rolls, unroll its and place the triangles on top of the filling.
  8. Brush with Egg: Use the remaining beaten egg to brush over the top of the crescent rolls for a nice golden color when baked.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for about 25-30 minutes, or until the crescent rolls are golden brown and fully cooked. Serve warm and enjoy!
