Easy Homemade Toffee
Description
This homemade toffee recipe begins by toasting raw almonds in the oven to deepen their flavor. Butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt are cooked together in a saucepan until the mixture turns an almond brown color indicating caramelization. This hot toffee is immediately spread over the toasted almonds on a lined baking sheet.
Semi-sweet chocolate chips are sprinkled over the toffee surface while hot, allowing them to melt slightly for an even layer when spread. Chopped pecans finish the topping. The toffee is cooled completely, usually about two hours, and then broken into pieces to serve.
The resulting toffee combines creamy caramel notes with crunchy nuts and chocolate, providing a classic treat with crisp texture. Toasting the almonds first enhances nuttiness and helps avoid sogginess.
