Easy Yellow Dal Recipe

Easy Yellow Dal is a lentil stew made by simmering yellow lentils with a flavorful base of sauteed onions, garlic, ginger, and spices like turmeric, cumin, and coriander. The result is a comforting dish with soft-textured lentils and fragrant spices that pair well with cooked rice or naan bread for a satisfying meal.

Description

This yellow dal recipe starts with gently sautéing diced onions until translucent, then adding minced garlic, grated fresh ginger, and ground spices including coriander, cumin, and turmeric to build an aromatic foundation. Yellow lentils are added alongside vegetable broth and simmered covered until tender, yielding a thick, hearty stew.

The dish has a mild and earthy flavor that highlights the spices without overwhelming heat or complexity. The lentils cook to a soft consistency, making the dal soothing and easy to eat. It is commonly served over rice or with flatbreads like naan, which can be used to scoop up the dal.

Fresh spices contribute the best flavor; older spices can be briefly toasted before adding to revive their aroma. This dal freezes well, so doubling the recipe and storing portions for future meals is convenient and time-saving.
