Ingredients

Servings

Hamburgers:

  • 2 tablespoons butter unsalted
  • 1 pound ground beef , (85/15)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper coarse ground
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce low sodium

For the Gravy:

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce low sodium
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon butter unsalted

To Finish:

  • 4 cups Steamed rice
  • 4 egg cooked over easy, large
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper coarse ground

Instructions

  1. Season the ground beef with salt, pepper and soy sauce gently until just mixed in.
  2. Form into 4 patties, press your thumb into the center of the patty to make an indentation so the beef doesn't shrink into a ball.
  3. In a mixing bowl whisk together the beef broth, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup and cornstarch.
  4. To a large heavy skillet on high heat add the butter.
  5. Cook the steaks for 4-5 minutes on each side until cooked through.
  6. Remove the hamburgers.
  7. Add the gravy mixture to the pan, bring to a simmer and whisk often while it cooks.
  8. Continue to cook until the gravy thickens, about 3-4 minutes.
  9. Serve in a bowl with rice.
  10. Top the patty over the rice, cover with gravy and top with fried egg seasoned with salt and pepper.
  11. Break egg to release runny yolk when eating.
