Mango Lassi

Mango Lassi is a creamy, smooth Indian beverage made by blending fresh mango chunks with yogurt, milk, sugar, and ice cubes. The combination creates a refreshing, chilled drink with a balanced sweetness and a pleasantly tart tang from the yogurt. It's typically enjoyed on its own or alongside spicy dishes, adding a cooling contrast to rich, flavorful meals.

Description

This Mango Lassi recipe features ripe mangoes blended with plain yogurt, milk, sugar, and ice cubes to produce a thick, velvety drink. By chilling the glass beforehand and using whole milk, the lassi achieves a cool, refreshing temperature and richer mouthfeel, though semi-skimmed milk can be used as a lighter option. The natural sweetness of mango pairs well with the slight tartness of yogurt, making it both flavorful and satisfying.

The preparation involves peeling and chopping fresh mangoes before blending all the ingredients until smooth. Serving immediately ensures the best texture and temperature. Traditionally, Mango Lassi is served at room temperature or cold to complement spicy curries or as a standalone indulgence.

To maintain freshness, consume the lassi right after blending as the ice cubes melt quickly. Adjusting sugar can tailor sweetness based on mango ripeness.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 Mango
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 100 g yogurt
  • 200 ml milk
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Place the empty smoothie glass into the refrigerator to ensure that the lassi is cooler and make it more refreshing
  2. Peel the fresh mangoes and cut into small chunks discarding the stone in the middle and add into a blender along with the sugar, yoghurt, ice cubes and milk - whole milk is best as the mango lassi will be tastier although semi-skimmed milk can be used for a healthy alternative
  3. Blitz until of smooth consistency and pour into the smoothie glass
  4. Serve immediately and enjoy on its own or on the side with a spicy curry!

Notes

  • Chill the serving glass in the refrigerator beforehand for a cooler lassi.
  • Use whole milk for richer taste; semi-skimmed milk can be a lighter alternative.
  • Consume immediately for best texture; ice cubes will dilute the drink over time.
