Matcha Bingsu (Green Tea Shaved Ice Dessert)

Matcha Bingsu is a delicate shaved ice dessert featuring ice infused with green tea powder, topped with chewy dango dumplings, sweet adzuki beans, and a drizzle of condensed milk. The dessert offers a refreshing texture and a mildly bitter, earthy matcha flavor balanced by the sweetness of the toppings and milk.

Description

Matcha Bingsu, or green tea shaved ice, is prepared by blending matcha powder with cooled hot water to create a frothed green tea mixture, which is then frozen into solid blocks. These blocks are shaved finely into fluffy ice using an ice shaver. This base provides the subtle grassy and slightly bitter notes characteristic of matcha, delivering a refreshing and vibrant flavor.

The shaved ice is served immediately topped with chewy dango, sweetened adzuki beans, and condensed milk according to taste, which add textural contrast and sweetness. The dessert combines a soft texture from the shaved ice and dango with the creamy richness from the condensed milk, creating an enjoyable balance of flavors and mouthfeel.

This dessert is best eaten promptly after shaving to preserve the delicate ice texture and enjoy the fresh matcha taste. It offers a unique way to experience matcha beyond drinks, highlighting its versatile flavor paired with traditional Korean and Japanese dessert elements.
