Ramen Stir Fry

This ramen stir fry features cooked ramen noodles quickly tossed with sautéed onions and fresh vegetables, then coated with a savory sauce made from chicken flavor packets, hoisin sauce, sesame and teriyaki oils, and granulated garlic. The dish combines tender noodles with crisp vegetables and a balanced blend of sweet and savory flavors, offering a filling and flavorful meal adaptable to different veggies and noodle types.

Description

Ramen Stir Fry uses plain-cooked ramen noodles as a base, combined with sautéed diced onions and assorted fresh vegetables like asparagus, carrots, or broccoli. The noodles and veggies are stir-fried together to meld flavors and retain some crispness in the vegetables.

The sauce is created by adding two chicken flavor packets from the ramen, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, teriyaki sauce, and granulated garlic, tossed evenly over the noodles and vegetables. This mix provides a balance of savory, sweet, and mildly garlicky notes. Cold water is added to loosen the sauce and help it coat the stir fry components.

This versatile stir fry can be served hot directly from the pan and modified by using different types of noodles or vegetables based on preference or availability. The inclusion of chicken flavor packets or chicken bouillon enhances the umami character of the dish.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 9 oz ramen noodles 3 packages) I used chicken flavor
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or canola oil
  • 1 1/2 cups onion diced
  • 2-3 cups vegetables chopped, fresh
  • 2 chicken flavor packets from the packages of ramen above
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1/3 cup hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon granulated garlic
  • 3/4 cup water cold
  • 1/3 cup teriyaki sauce I used Mr. Yoshida's Gourmet

Instructions

  1. Bring large pot of water to boil and cook ramen noodles plain until just tender, about 2 minutes. Drain and rinse with cold water. Set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium high heat. Cook onion for 1-2 minutes or until it starts to brown lightly and become translucent.
  3. Add in the remaining veggies and stir fry for another 2-3 minutes.
  4. Toss cooked ramen into the hot pan and toss with veggies.
  5. Sprinkle the chicken flavor packets and granulated garlic over top of the noodles.
  6. Add in the remaining wet ingredients. Toss together to coat noodles and veggies in sauce.
  7. Remove from heat and serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute the chicken flavor packets with 2 tablespoons of chicken bouillon if unavailable.
  • Use any fresh vegetables you like such as asparagus, green beans, carrot, broccoli, celery, or snow peas.
  • This recipe works with other noodles beyond ramen for variation.
