Sugar cookies in air Fryer
Description
Sugar cookies in air fryer combine simple ingredients like butter, sugar, and all-purpose flour with baking powder and baking soda to produce a light and tender cookie. The dough is creamed together and chilled briefly before being rolled out and shaped. Cooking them in an air fryer at a low temperature gently bakes the cookies, ensuring they hold their shape and develop a delicate light-brown edge. Sprinkles can be added for an optional touch of color and texture.
The air fryer method offers a compact way to bake small batches of cookies, ideal for households without a traditional oven or when avoiding heating up a large kitchen. These cookies come out with a mild buttery flavor and a soft texture suitable for snacking or dessert. Cooling them slightly in the air fryer allows residual heat to finish the baking without overcooking.
For best results, use butter that has been softened at room temperature rather than melted, as this helps in creating the correct dough consistency. Refrigerating the dough before shaping prevents excessive spreading while cooking. The cookies can be stored after cooling and enjoyed over several days.
Ingredients
- ⅓ cup butter salted, 60 g
- ½ cup granulated sugar 120 g
- 1 egg
- 1 cup all-purpose flour 170 g
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon baking soda
- Sprinkles
Instructions
- Combine butter and sugar using a hand mixer or whisk in a mixing bowl.
- Add an egg and mix well. Stir in vanilla essence and mix again.
- Combine all the dry ingredients, i.e. all-purpose flour, baking powder, and baking soda, with the wet ingredients.
- Make a soft dough. Refrigerate this dough for 15-12 minutes.
- Roll this dough into a big disc of around ¼ inch using a rolling pin. Cut out cookies with a cookie cutter in the shapes you like.
- Transfer them to the lined air fryer tray.
- Decorate them with sprinkles. Optional step.
- Air fry these sugar cookies in a preheated air fryer for about 8-10 minutes at 160°F.
- Turn off the air fryer when the edges of the cookies change to light brown or slightly red.
- Let them cool in the air fryer for another 5-10 minutes.
- And, tada, sugar cookies prepared in the air fryer are ready to serve!
Notes
- Use butter softened at room temperature rather than melted to achieve the correct dough texture.
- Chilling the dough before shaping helps maintain cookie shape during air frying.
- Decorate with sprinkles before cooking if desired for added color and texture.
- Allow cookies to cool in the air fryer after cooking to finish baking gently and avoid overbaking.
