Vegan Chocolate Sauce (only 3 ingredients!)

This vegan chocolate sauce uses just three main ingredients: almond butter, cacao powder, and maple syrup, accented by a pinch of salt and water to achieve the right consistency. The sauce blends into a smooth, silky texture ideal for drizzling over ice cream or desserts. The combination of nutty almond butter and rich cacao powder creates a deep chocolate flavor with natural sweetness from maple syrup. It can be stored chilled and thinned with water if needed before serving again.

Description

The Vegan Chocolate Sauce (only 3 ingredients!) recipe creates a creamy and rich chocolate sauce by whisking together almond butter, cacao powder, and maple syrup, with added salt to balance flavors. A small amount of hot water is used to adjust thickness, making the sauce pourable and smooth. The almond butter provides a subtle nutty undertone while the cacao powder delivers the chocolate intensity, and maple syrup sweetens without refined sugar.

The sauce does not require cooking, which preserves the raw and wholesome qualities of the ingredients. Adjusting the thickness is easy by adding more water or maple syrup depending on desired sweetness and pourability. The recipe yields a versatile topping suitable for a variety of desserts, especially vegan or dairy-free ones.

It's best served fresh over ice cream or other treats, but leftovers can be kept refrigerated up to five days. Before serving chilled leftovers, the sauce may need stirring and thinning to restore smoothness. Its simple ingredient list makes it a convenient, plant-based alternative to conventional chocolate sauces that often include dairy or refined sugars.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 tablespoons almond butter (I like to use homemade, or the Raw Almond Butter from Trader Joe's)
  • 2 tablespoons cacao powder (or unsweetened cocoa powder)
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons maple syrup , to taste
  • salt pinch
  • 1 to 3 tablespoons water as needed to thin, hot

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine the almond butter, cacao powder, 2 tablespoons of maple syrup, a pinch of salt, and 1 tablespoon of water. Use a whisk to stir well.
  2. Taste the mixture, and if you want it sweeter, add 1 more tablespoon of maple syrup. If you don't need the added sweetness, add 1 tablespoon of water instead. Whisk again, until a silky smooth chocolate sauce is created. Add more water if you need to thin it out any further.
  3. Serve this sauce right away over your favorite ice cream or dessert. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days, but it will thicken when chilled, so you might need to thin it out with more water before serving it again.
