Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 450 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, garlic powder, and salt.
  3. Add buttermilk and melted butter. Stir until just incorporated.
  4. Fold in cheese until just combined.
  5. Scoop out 3 tablespoons batter onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2-3 inches in between biscuits.
  6. Bake for about 8-12 minutes, or until golden brown.
  7. For the garlic butter, whisk together butter, parsley, garlic powder, and Old Bay in a small bowl.
  8. Brush the tops of the hot biscuits with the garlic butter.
  9. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Garlic powder: Be sure to use garlic powder, not garlic salt.
  • Kosher salt: You can also use regular (table) salt. If using table salt, you'll only need 1/4 teaspoon.
  • Buttermilk: If you don't have buttermilk, you can make an easy substitute with this buttermilk substitute recipe.
  • Unsalted butter: If using salted butter, omit the kosher salt.
  • Sharp cheddar cheese: I like to use sharp cheddar cheese because it has more flavor. Mild cheddar cheese could also be used.
