Description
Yum Yum Sauce combines mayonnaise, tomato paste (or ketchup as a substitute), rice vinegar, granulated sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and melted butter whisked together until uniform. Water is added gradually to achieve a creamy but pourable consistency.
The sauce’s characteristic pink hue comes from the tomato paste, contributing both acidity and depth. The seasoning blend imparts mild smoky and savory notes balanced by the richness of mayonnaise and butter.
It can be served immediately or stored refrigerated for up to five days. The flavor is enhanced when made with Japanese-style mayonnaise such as Kewpie, but standard mayonnaise is also suitable.
Ingredients
- 1 cup mayonnaise Look for Japanese mayo such as Kewpie if you can find it
- 1 1/2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 teaspoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon butter melted
- salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons water or more if needed
Instructions
- Place all of the ingredients in a medium bowl.
- Whisk until well combined. You can add more water, 1 teaspoon at a time, if needed to reach your desired consistency.
- Serve immediately, or transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for later use.
Notes
- Tomato paste provides depth and the pink color; ketchup can substitute if unavailable.
- Use Japanese mayonnaise like Kewpie for an authentic flavor, though regular mayo works as well.
